Birmingham Classic: Zhu reaches semi-finals
Lin Zhu defeated Rebecca Marino 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Friday and will face the winner of the match between top seed Barbora Krejcikova and Linda Fruhvirtova in the next round
Chinese Lin Zhu won against Canadian lucky loser Rebecca Marino 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the last 4 of the Birmingham Classic at Edgbaston Priory Club on Friday.
Zhu, ranked No 39, will face the winner of the match between top seed Barbora Krejcikova and Linda Fruhvirtova next.
The Chinese beat Katie Boulter (7-5, 7-5) and Pole Magda Linette, the No 3 seed (6-3, 6-0) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Birmingham tournament, Marino, ranked No 90, defeated Chinese qualifier Xiyu Wang (7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-3) and edged out American qualifier Emina Bektas (6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (1)).
