Birmingham Classic: Venus Williams wins second match since Wimbledon 2021
Venus Williams edged out Camila Giorgi 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (6) on Monday evening. She’ll play the winner of the match between Czech Linda Noskova and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the second seed, in the next round
American wildcard Venus Williams edged out Italian Camila Giorgi 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (6) to move into the last 16 of the Birmingham Classic at Edgbaston Priory Club on Monday evening.
The match lasted three hours and 16 minutes – and it is Williams’s second win since Wimbledon 2021, following her win over Katie Volynets at the ASB Classic in January, plus her first over a player ranked in the top 50 since 2019.
