Birmingham Classic: Halep sets up clash against local wild card Dart
Simona Halep beat Lesia Tsurenko 6-1, 6-4 on Monday to advance to the second round f the WTA Birmingham Open
Second seed Simona Halep, of Romania, advanced to the second round of the Birmingham Classic by defeating Ukrainian qualifier Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets at Edgbaston Priory Club on Monday afternoon.
Halep, ranked No 20 in the world, won 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 18 minutes.
The former world No 1 and two-time Major winner will next meet British wild card Harriet Dart, who scored a 6-2, 6-0 win over Maria Camila Osorio Serrano.
