Birmingham Classic: Halep beat local wild card to reach quarter-finals
Simona Halep won against Harriet Dart 6-3, 6-2 and will play another wildcard, Katie Boulter, for a place in the semi-finals
Second seed Simona Halep, of Romania, defeated British wildcard Harriet Dart in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the Birmingham Classic at Edgbaston Priory Club on Wednesday.
Halep, a two-time Grand Slam winner, won 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and three minutes and will face another local wildcard, Katie Boulter, next. The Romanian is coming off a second-round exit at the French Open.
Halep, currently being coached by Patrick Mouratoglou, is a former Wimbledon champion, having won the title in 2019.
Boulter defeated Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 7-6, 6-1 in another second round match.
