Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia won against Italian Camila Giorgi, the No 3 seed, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals of the Birmingham Classic at Edgbaston Priory Club on Friday evening.
Haddad Maia, ranked No 32, will face Romanian Simona Halep, the second seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Brazilian defeated Czech Petra Kvitova, the No 5 seed (7-6 (4), 6-2) and edged out Pole Magdalena Frech (6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (3)).
Giorgi, ranked No 26, beat Czech Tereza Martincova (7-6 (7), 6-4) and American Lauren Davis (3-6, 7-5, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
