Andreescu reunites with coach Christophe Lambert

Andreescu has wasted no time in finding a new coach after splitting with well-respected coach Sven Groeneveld last month after a 14-month partnership

Bianca Andreescu has reunited with her former coach Christophe Lambert in the latest move on the coaching merry-go-round.

The pair previously worked together through Tennis Canada when Andreescu was just 14. Lambert has left his role as Tennis New Zealand‘s high performance director after two years in post in order to work again with Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion.

“Bianca asked me to coach her and I accepted the job,” said Lambert. “It was an offer I couldn’t refuse. It’s always good to have people calling you when you are up, but when she was down I was checking on her and giving her my opinion.”

Andreeescu was last in action at the Billie Jean King Cup, where Team Canada were eliminated by Team Switzerland. The 22-year-old lost the opening singles match to Viktorija Golubic 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in her first appearance for Canada since 2019.

The former world No 4 will now look forward to some time to work on her game under Lambert before the season restarts. She missed the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and then in December 2021 announced that she was skipping the 2022 Australian Open to focus on her mental health.

Andreescu has set out her ambitions for next season – to rise quickly through the WTA rankings from her current position of world No 45: “I think I’m going to have a great preseason. Next year I really think I can crack the top 10 again.”
