Czech wildcard Marketa Vondrousova reached the last 8 of the Berlin Open when German qualifier Jule Niemeier retired on Thursday at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club.
Vondrousova, ranked No 53, led 6-3, 6-5 when Niemeier, ranked No 120, pulled out on Thursday at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club.
The Czech will face the winner of the match between Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 6 seed, and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich next.
In the previous round of the Berlin tournament, Marketa Vondrousova defeated Canadian Bianca Andreescu (7-6, 7-5).
The German won against Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 4 seed (7-6 (4), 6-4) in the 32 of the Berlin tournament.
