Berlin Open: Azarenka reaches last four after Rybakina retirement
Victoria Azarenka benefited from the abandonment of Elena Rybakina (3-1) on Friday and will play the winner of the match between Russian Anna Kalinskaya and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, in the next round
Belarusian Victoria Azarenka moved into the last four of the Berlin Open when Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 3 seed, retired on Friday at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club.
Azarenka, ranked No 19, led 3-1 when Rybakina, ranked No 4, pulled out at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club on Friday.
The 34-year-old Belarusian will face the winner of the match between Russian Anna Kalinskaya and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Berlin tournament, Victoria Azarenka defeated Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-2) and qualifier Zeynep Sonmez (6-3, 6-3).
The Kazakh won against Russian qualifier Veronika Kudermetova (6-4, 7-5) in the previous round of the Berlin tournament.
