Belarusian Victoria Azarenka won against qualifier Zeynep Sonmez 6-3, 6-3 to reach the last eight of the Berlin Open at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club on Wednesday.
Azarenka, ranked No 19, will face the winner of the match between Russian qualifier Veronika Kudermetova and Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 3 seed, next.
The 34-year-old Belarusian defeated Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Berlin tournament, Sonmez, ranked No 157, beat Dutch lucky loser Arantxa Rus (3-6, 6-2, 6-1).
