Berlin Open: Alexandrova upsets Gauff to continue fine run of form on grass
Ekaterina Alexandrova won against Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-0. She’ll face the winner of the match between Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, and Russian wildcard Veronika Kudermetova in the next round
Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova advanced to the quarter-finals of the Berlin Open by winning against American Coco Gauff, the No 5 seed, 6-4, 6-0 at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club.
Alexandrova, ranked No 22, will face the winner of the match between Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, and Russian wildcard Veronika Kudermetova next.
The Russian beat compatriot Liudmila Samsonova (6-4, 6-3) ahead of her victory against the talented young American.
Alexandrova is currently enjoying a superb run of form on the grass, having taken the title at the Libema Open last week, before two impressive wins over big-name opponents this week in Berlin to bring her match-winning streak to seven.
In the previous round of the Berlin tournament, Gauff, ranked No 7, defeated Czech Katerina Siniakova (6-3, 6-4).
