Bencic sets up Sakkari semi-final clash in Berlin
Bencic improves to 5-4 lifetime against Kudermetova but is 01- against semi-final opponent, Sakkari
Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 8 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Berlin Open defeating Russian Veronika Kudermetova in three sets at Rot-Weiss Tennis Club on Friday.
Bencic had los to Kudermetova in straight sets in the Rosmalen quarter-finals last week. However, on Friday, she came out on tops to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in a two-hour 15-minute contest.
It was Bencic’s third consecutive three-set win this week and improves her head-to-head to 5-4 against Kudermetova.
The Swiss woman, who won the Tokyo Olympics singles gold last year, will play second seed Maria Sakkari in the semi-finals on Saturday.
Sakkari, who beat Daria Kasatkina earlier in the day, has won the only contest between the two players – winning their 2020 quarter-final clash in St. Petersburg.
