Croat Antonia Ruzic reached the quarter-finals of the Barranquilla Open by winning against American Varvara Lepchenko 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Thursday night.
Ruzic, ranked No 185, will play Argentinian Solana Sierra next.
The 21-year-old Croat defeated Colombian Emiliana Arango, the No 7 seed (6-2, 6-4) in the previous round.
During the 32, Lepchenko, ranked No 178, benefited from the abandonment of Bulgarian Gergana Topalova (6-0, 4-1).
