Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 8 seed, moved into the last eight of the Barranquilla Open when Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic retired on Wednesday night.
Pigossi, ranked No 135, led 6-2, 1-0 when Mladenovic, ranked No 190, pulled out on Wednesday night.
The Brazilian will play the winner of the match between Colombian Emiliana Arango and Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the second seed, next.
Laura Pigossi won against Frenchwoman Amandine Hesse (6-2, 6-1) in the previous round.
In the previous round, the Frenchwoman edged out American Katrina Scott (1-6, 6-4, 6-4).
