Barranquilla Open: Maria wins title in dominant fashion over Ferro
Tatjana Maria lifted the trophy at the Barranquilla Open on Sunday night against Fiona Ferro.
German Tatjana Maria, the top seed, won the Barranquilla Open final by defeating Frenchwoman Fiona Ferro 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday night.
It took Maria not much more than an hour to dispatch Ferro, breaking her No 252 ranked opponent’s serve on six occasions as she cruised to victory for the loss of only three games.
Maria, ranked No 58, beat Argentinian Martina Capurro Taborda (6-1, 6-1), Greek Valentini Grammatikopoulou (6-0, 6-2), Australian Daria Saville (6-3, 6-2) and American qualifier Varvara Lepchenko (6-0, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Ferro, ranked No 252, defeated Spaniard Aliona Bolsova, the No 4 seed (6-2, 6-1), Elsa Jacquemot (6-3, 4-6, 6-3), Romanian Irina Fetecau (6-4, 6-0) and Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the second seed (4-6, 6-4, 6-2).
