Bari Open: Zidansek reaches last four
Tamara Zidansek beat Katarzyna Kawa 6-2, 6-4 on Friday and will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the top seed, and Italian Jennifer Ruggeri in the next round
Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, the No 5 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Bari Open by winning against Pole qualifier Katarzyna Kawa 6-2, 6-4 at Circolo Tennis Bari on Friday.
Zidansek, ranked No 118, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the top seed, and Italian Jennifer Ruggeri next.
The Slovenian defeated Latvian Darja Semenistaja (6-1, 2-6, 6-2) and Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle (7-6 (4), 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Kawa, ranked No 262, edged out Italian Sara Errani, the No 4 seed (7-5, 4-6, 6-4) and won against Frenchwoman Carole Monnet (6-3, 3-6, 6-2).
