Badosa injured again, withdraws from Indian Wells
Paula Badosa has announced her withdrawal from the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells this week due to injury
Paula Badosa’s horrible run of injuries continues, with the Spaniard withdrawing from Indian Wells most recently.
The former world No 2 spent a large chunk of 2023 fighting a back injury, with the hope that this year she’d be in better health. However, just a day after playing mixed doubles with boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas in Indian Wells, the 26-year-old has announced her withdrawal from the WTA 1000 event.
“So sorry I have to withdraw from my favourite tournament,” the 2021 BNP Paribas champion said on her Instagram on Wednesday. “I tried everything to be able to play but wasn’t enough.”
“I’m having a very difficult time with my injury but I’m fighting everyday to comeback as soon as possible. I wanna thank the fans that are sticking with me, specially this past year. I’m sorry I haven’t given you what you are expecting from me and I’m just giving you sad news lately.”
Badosa also posted on X saying that, “one day I’ll be smiling on a court again”.
Play has begun in Indian Wells with the WTA 1000 event taking place over the next 10 days, as the best players in the world go head-to-head in the first of two Masters events in the United States this month.
