Russian Anna Blinkova, the No 9 seed, defeated Canadian Leylah Fernandez 7-5, 6-2 to reach the last eight of the Bad Homburg Open at Bod Hombourg vor der Höhe.
Blinkova, ranked No 39, will play Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, next.
In the previous round of the Bad Hombourg tournament, the Russian edged out German wildcard Sabine Lisicki (3-6, 6-1, 7-5).
Fernandez, ranked No 96, won against German lucky loser Lena Papadakis (6-0, 6-1) in the previous round of the Bad Hombourg tournament.
