Diana Shnaider beat Donna Vekic 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to win the Bad Homburg title
Diana Shnaider defeated Donna Vekic 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to win the Bad Homburg title.
Vekic could not capitalise on 13 break point opportunities she generated on her opponent’s serve, converting only three of those chances as Shnaider proved the more clinical of the two.
Victory today gives Shnaider her second WTA title, both coming this year, after also winning in Thailand earlier in the season.
For Vekic, she is still waiting for her first title of the season after reaching her first final of 2024.
Ahead of her victory, Shnaider, ranked No 47, beat German Angelique Kerber (7-5, 6-3), Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (6-2, 6-2), Spanish wildcard Paula Badosa (6-3, 7-6 (3)) and American Emma Navarro, the No 3 seed (7-5, 2-6, 6-3).
Vekic, ranked No 49, defeated Italian qualifier Lucia Bronzetti (6-3, 6-4), Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 6 seed (6-4, 3-6, 6-3), Katerina Siniakova (W/O) and Bulgarian qualifier Viktoriya Tomova (6-0, 7-6 (6)) earlier in the tournament.
