Austin Open: Sevastova upsets Stephens to reach last eight

Latvian Anastasija Sevastova moved into the last eight of the Austin Open by beating American Sloane Stephens, the second seed, 6-3, 6-2 at the Westwood Country Club on Thursday night.
Sevastova, ranked No 485, will face the winner of the match between Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova and American qualifier Sachia Vickery next.
In the previous round of the Austin tournament, the 33-year-old Latvian won against Argentinian Julia Riera (6-4, 6-3).
Stephens, ranked No 40, defeated qualifier Tereza Martincova (6-4, 6-0) in the previous round of the Austin tournament.
