American Madison Keys, the top seed, defeated Romanian Jaqueline Cristian 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the last eight of the Auckland Open at the ASB Tennis Arena on Thursday.
Keys, ranked No 21, will play Dane Clara Tauson, the No 5 seed, next.
In the previous round of the tournament, the American won against Italian Lucia Bronzetti (6-4, 6-4).
Cristian, ranked No 85, benefited from the retirement of Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva (6-3, 2-0) during the first round of the tournament.
