Argentina Open: Zarazua knocks out Mandlik to move into semi-finals
Renata Zarazua beat Elizabeth Mandlik 7-6 (4), 6-1 and will face the winner of the match between Laura Pigossi and Solana Sierra in the next round
Mexican Renata Zarazua, the No 6 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Argentina Open by winning against American Elizabeth Mandlik, the No 3 seed, 7-6 (4), 6-1 at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.
Zarazua, ranked No 135, will play the winner of the match between Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 5 seed, and Argentinian Solana Sierra next.
In the previous rounds of the Argentinian tournament, the Mexican defeated Dutchwoman Eva Vedder (7-6 (3), 7-5) and Argentinian wildcard Luisina Giovannini (6-0, 6-4).
Mandlik, ranked No 113, edged out Argentinian Martina Capurro Taborda (4-6, 6-4, 6-4) and won against Jamie Loeb (6-0, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
