Argentina Open: Ormaechea makes last 4
Paula Ormaechea beat Laura Pigossi 6-2, 6-4 on Friday evening and will play Montenegrin Danka Kovinic, the second seed, in the next round
Argentinian wildcard Paula Ormaechea advanced to the semi-finals of the Argentina Open by winning against Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 8 seed, 6-2, 6-4 at Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club on Friday evening.
Ormaechea, ranked No 185, will play Montenegrin Danka Kovinic, the second seed, next.
In the previous rounds, the Argentinian defeated Austrian Julia Grabher, the No 4 seed (6-3, 6-2) and Serb qualifier Natalija Stevanovic (7-5, 6-2).
Pigossi, ranked No 115, won against Georgian Ekaterine Gorgodze (6-3, 6-4) and edged out Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
