Angers Open: Kessler beats Curmi to make last eight
Mccartney Kessler beat Francesca Curmi 6-4, 6-3 and will play the winner of the match between Dayana Yastremska and Raluka Serban in the next round
American Mccartney Kessler reached the quarter-finals of the Angers Open by beating Maltese Francesca Curmi 6-4, 6-3 at the Arena Loire de Trélazé.
Kessler, ranked No 235, will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 6 seed, and Cypriot Raluka Serban next.
The American won against Dane Clara Tauson, the No 4 seed (7-6 (2), 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Angers tournament, Curmi, ranked No 330, benefited from the abandonment of Romanian Patricia Maria Tig (5-7, 6-0, 2-3).
