American Danielle Collins beat Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, 7-5, 6-3 to win the Miami Open final at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Collins, ranked No 53, previously defeated lucky loser Bernarda Pera (3-6, 6-1, 6-1), Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 30 seed (6-2, 6-2), Russian Elina Avanesyan (6-1, 6-2), Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the No 19 seed (6-3, 6-2), Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 23 seed (6-3, 6-2) and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 14 seed (6-3, 6-2).
Rybakina reached the final by beating Danish qualifier Clara Tauson (3-6, 7-5, 6-4), American qualifier Taylor Townsend (6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-4), American Madison Keys, the No 17 seed (6-3, 7-5), Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 8 seed (7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-4) and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 27 seed (6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (2)).
