American Danielle Collins reached the semi-finals of the Miami Open by beating Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 23 seed, 6-3, 6-2 at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Collins, ranked No 53, will play the winner of the match between Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 14 seed, and American Jessica Pegula, the No 5 seed, next.
The American beat lucky loser Bernarda Pera (3-6, 6-1, 6-1), Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 30 seed (6-2, 6-2), Russian Elina Avanesyan (6-1, 6-2) and Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the No 19 seed (6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Miami tournament, Garcia, ranked No 27, won against Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (6-1, 5-2 ret.), Japanese Naomi Osaka (7-6 (4), 7-5) and American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed (6-3, 1-6, 6-2).
