Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 8 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open by winning against New Zealander Lulu Sun 6-0, 6-3 at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City on Wednesday.

Fernandez, ranked No 27, will face the winner of the match between American Ashlyn Krueger and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 3 seed, next.

The 22-year-old Canadian beat Japanese lucky loser Moyuka Uchijima (7-6 (3), 7-6) in the previous round of the Abu Dhabi tournament.

In the previous round of the Abu Dhabi tournament, Sun, ranked No 45, defeated French wildcard Caroline Garcia (6-1, 6-3).
