Abierto Tampico: Stakusic makes final

Canadian qualifier Marina Stakusic won against Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, the No 6 seed, 7-6 (3), 7-6 to advance to the final of the Abierto Tampico on Saturday.

Stakusic, ranked No 140, will play Russian Anna Blinkova, the No 5 seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the 19-year-old Canadian beat Ukrainian qualifier Anastasiya Sobolieva (6-2, 6-2), American Robin Montgomery, the No 7 seed (6-4, 7-6 (5)) and Italian Lucrezia Stefanini (0-6, 6-4, 7-5).

Sorribes Tormo, ranked No 112, won against Mexican wildcard Ana Sofia Sanchez (6-0, 6-1), Russian Polina Kudermetova (6-3, 6-4) and German Tatjana Maria, the No 4 seed (7-6 (6), 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
