Belgian Elise Mertens, the top seed, won against American Ashlyn Krueger 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Abierto Tampico at Centro Libanes Mexicano de Tampico on Thursday night.
Mertens, ranked No 30, will play Pole Magda Linette, the No 5 seed, next.
The Belgian defeated American qualifier Elvina Kalieva (6-2, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Krueger, ranked No 199, won against Indonesian qualifier Aldila Sutjiadi (6-2, 7-5).
