Canadian Rebecca Marino beat Argentine Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 3 seed, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Abierto Tampico on Wednesday.
Marino, ranked No 118, will play Australian Maya Joint, the No 8 seed, next.
The 33-year-old Canadian won against Mexican wildcard Jessica Hinojosa Gomez (6-1, 6-0) in the previous round.
Earlier in the week, Carle, ranked No 87, edged out Russian Alina Korneeva (6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-4).
