Krejcikova +9, to No 14
It was a brilliant week for Barbora Krejcikova, who took the title on home soil in Ostrava by defeating world No 1 Iga Switek for the title. Perhaps it marks the beginning of a rise up the rankings for the former world No 2 as well. At the end of an injury-marred season she rises nine spot, back to No 14 in the rankings, and is the biggest riser inside the top-50 in this week’s WTA rankings.
Alexandrova makes top-20 debut
Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova continues to play at a high level on tour. The 27-year-old, fresh off the title in Seoul two weeks aga, defeated Victoria Azarenka, Daria Kasatkina and Tereza Martincova to reach the semi-finals at Ostrava, and will make her top-20 debut as a result.
She rises one spot from 21 to 20.
Parry, Liu make career high
There were two other new career highs inside the top-100, and both players are very deserving.
France’s Diane Parry, in the midst of her breakout season, rises to No 61 in the rankings. The 19-year-old has reached the quarter-finals in two of her last three events, at Portoroz and Monastir.
American Claire Liu, who upset world No 2 Ons Jabeur en route to the semi-finals at Monastir, rises nine spots to No 64.
Parry started the 2022 season at 141; Liu started her 2022 campaign at 94.
