Mikael Ymer stuns No 9-seeded Fritz to reach third round

Swede Mikael Ymer moved into the third round of Wimbledon by overhauling American Taylor Fritz, the No 9 seed, 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Thursday evening.

The Swede reaches Wimbledon’s third round for the first time as he nets his first Grand Slam win of the season. The victory also marks his first Top 10 win in all tries.

Ymer, ranked No 59, will face Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan next.

Ymer improves to 6-1 lifetime in five-setters, while Fritz drops to 8-11.

In the previous round of The Championships, the Swede won against Slovak Alex Molcan (6-3, 6-3, 6-4).

Fritz, ranked No 9, defeated German Yannick Hanfmann (6-4, 2-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3) in the first round of The Championships.
