Marketa Vondrousova won the trophy on Saturday against Ons Jabeur
Marketa Vondrousova won the Wimbledon trophy by defeating Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 6 seed, 6-4, 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Saturday.
Vondrousova, ranked No 42, beat American Peyton Stearns (6-2, 7-5), Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 12 seed (6-3, 6-3), Croat Donna Vekic, the No 20 seed (6-1, 7-5), No 32 seed Marie Bouzkova (2-6, 6-4, 6-3), American Jessica Pegula, the No 4 seed (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) and Ukrainian wildcard Elina Svitolina (6-3, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of The Championships, Jabeur, ranked No 6, defeated Pole Magdalena Frech (6-3, 6-3), Chinese qualifier Zhuoxuan Bai (6-1, 6-1), Canadian Bianca Andreescu (3-6, 6-3, 6-4), No 9 seed Petra Kvitova (6-0, 6-3), Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 3 seed (6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1) and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed (6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3).
