Marketa Vondrousova reached the final of Wimbledon by defeating Ukrainian wildcard Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-3 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Thursday afternoon.
Vondrousova, ranked No 42, will play the winner of the match between Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 6 seed, and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, next.
In the previous rounds of The Championships, Marketa Vondrousova won against American Peyton Stearns (6-2, 7-5), Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 12 seed (6-3, 6-3), Croat Donna Vekic, the No 20 seed (6-1, 7-5), No 32 seed Marie Bouzkova (2-6, 6-4, 6-3) and American Jessica Pegula, the No 4 seed (6-4, 2-6, 6-4).
Svitolina, ranked No 76, beat American wildcard Venus Williams (6-4, 6-3), Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 28 seed (6-1, 1-6, 6-1), American qualifier Sofia Kenin (7-6 (3), 6-2), Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 19 seed (2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9)) and Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed (7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
