After attending grandfather’s funeral over weekend, Virtanen reaches Wimbledon second round

Finnish qualifier Otto Virtanen beat Australian Max Purcell 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 to move into the second round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Monday evening.

Playing his third Grand Slam main draw, this was his first main draw win at a Major.

It also comes just days after his grandfather passed away. Virtanen flew to Finland over the weekend for the funeral ceremony and returned to London in time for his first round match.

Virtanen, ranked No 147, will face the winner of the match between American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, and Spaniard Pedro Martinez next.
