Svitolina cruises into quarter-finals vs. Rybakina
Elina Svitolina defeated Xinyu Wang 6-2, 6-1 on Monday. She’ll face Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, in the next round
Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 21 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of Wimbledon by winning against Chinese Xinyu Wang 6-2, 6-1 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Monday afternoon.
This will be her third Wimbledon quarter-final. On the two previous occasions she has reached the last eight, she has gone on to reach the semi-finals too.
“I’ve been feeling quite well on the courts of Wimbledon”, Svitolina said. “Been striking the ball extremely well. I think every match I’ve been improving, playing better and better. Serve been working quite well, as well.”
Svitolina, ranked No 21, will play Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, next. “It’s going to be another big battle in the quarterfinal. Played Elena a couple of times already so I know what to expect. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little bit of a better day regarding the spirit-wise.
Ahead of her victory, the Ukrainian beat Pole Magda Linette (7-5, 6-7 (9), 6-3), German Jule Niemeier (6-3, 6-4) and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 10 seed (6-1, 7-6 (4)).
Wang, ranked No 42, won against Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-0), American Jessica Pegula, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-1) and Harriet Dart (2-6, 7-5, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
