Wimbledon: Svitolina battles past Linette to reach second round
A semi-finalist last year, Svitolina will play German Jule Niemeier in the second round

Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, the No 21 seed, won against Pole Magda Linette 7-5, 6-7 (9), 6-3 to advance to the second round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Wednesday.
Svitolina, ranked No 21 in the world, will play German Jule Niemeier for a spot in the third round.
The Ukrainian needed two hours and 40 minutes for the win, during which she took a medical time out late in the third set.
