Top seed Sinner slips and slides but makes it through to second round

Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, won against German Yannick Hanfmann 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the second round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Monday evening.

It wasn’t a pretty performance from the top-ranked Italian – he slipped and feel in the backcourt on several occasions during the two hour and 58-minute contest, but managed to come out on top to earn his tenth career Wimbledon win.

Sinner, ranked No 1, will face Italian Matteo Berrettini next.

The Italian hit 47 winners and cracked 16 aces but he was outplayed in the third set before he got his bearings and finished off the world No 110 under a closed roof on No.1 Court.
