Wimbledon: Sinner comes through tricky Halys test, to face Elahi in last 16
Jannik Sinner edged out Quentin Halys 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. He’ll face Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan in the next round
Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 8 seed, moved into the last 16 of Wimbledon by edging out Frenchman Quentin Halys 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London.
Sinner, ranked No 8, will play the winner of the match between Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan and Swede Mikael Ymer next.
Ahead of his victory, the 21-year-old Italian beat Argentinian Juan Manuel Cerundolo (6-2, 6-2, 6-2) and Argentinian Diego Schwartzman (7-5, 6-1, 6-2).
Halys, ranked No 79, edged out No 27 seed Daniel Evans (6-2, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4) and won against Australian Aleksandar Vukic (6-3, 6-1, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
