Wimbledon: Rune sails past Carballes Baena for second career win at Wimbledon, meets Fokina next

Holger Rune reached the third round of Wimbledon, beating Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-3, 7-6 (3), 6-4 to mark just the second victory of his career at the All England Club.

Rune, ranked No. 6, will face Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No. 31 seed, for a place in the fourth round.

While already one of the most dangerous players on the tour, Rune has yet to prove himself on the biggest stage in grass-court tennis. But the young Dane has made a hugely impressive start to his Wimbledon campaign, moving through to the third round without yet dropping a set.

In the previous round of The Championships, the 20-year-old Dane defeated wildcard George Loffhagen (7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2).

Carballes Baena, ranked No 57, edged out Italian qualifier Matteo Arnaldi (6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4) in the first round of The Championships.
