Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 25 seed, won against American Taylor Townsend 7-6 (4), 6-1 to reach the second round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 28, will play Chinese Lin Zhu next.
