Paul eases past Bautista Agut to set up Wimbledon quarter-final with Alcaraz
Tommy Paul beat Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 7-6 (3), 6-2 on Sunday evening and will face Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 3 seed, in the next round
American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, beat Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 7-6 (3), 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
This year’s Queen’s champion was in fine form again at SW19 as he continues his excellent grass-court season with a run to the last eight of Wimbledon.
He will take on world No 3 and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals.
The American won against Spaniard Pedro Martinez (6-2, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3), Finnish qualifier Otto Virtanen (4-6, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4) and Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 23 seed (6-3, 6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds of The Championships.
Earlier in the tournament, Bautista Agut, ranked No 112, won against German Maximilian Marterer (6-3, 6-1, 6-4), Italian Lorenzo Sonego (6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4) and Italian Fabio Fognini (7-6 (6), 3-6, 5-7, 7-6 (1), 6-4).
