Nadal makes Wimbledon last eight for eighth time

Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the second seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the eighth time by beating Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the No 21 seed, 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (6) at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Monday evening.
“To be in quarter-finals of Wimbledon after three years of not being here, it’s amazing, I’m very, very happy,” he said on court afterwards.
Nadal, ranked No 4, will face American Taylor Fritz, the No 11 seed, next.
The 36-year-old Spaniard won against Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo (6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4), Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis (6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3) and Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 27 seed (6-1, 6-2, 6-4) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Van De Zandschulp, ranked No 25, defeated Spaniard Feliciano López (6-2, 6-3, 6-3), Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (3-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4) and Frenchman Richard Gasquet (7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-1).
