Wimbledon: Musetti defeats Fritz, sets semi-final clash with Djokovic next
Lorenzo Musetti defeated Taylor Fritz 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 on Wednesday and will play Serb Novak Djokovic, the second seed, in the next round
Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 25 seed, beat American Taylor Fritz, the No 13 seed, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to move into the semi-finals of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Wednesday.
Musetti, ranked No 25, will play Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, the second seed, next.
In the previous rounds of The Championships, the 22-year-old Italian won against Frenchman Constant Lestienne (4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2, 6-2), Luciano Darderi (6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4), Argentinian Francisco Comesana (6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 6-3) and French lucky loser Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2).
Fritz, ranked No 12, won against Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-1, 6-2, 6-4), Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4), Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the No 24 seed (7-6 (3), 6-3, 7-5) and German Alexander Zverev, the No 4 seed (4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
