‘Nice to see Roger clapping some good shots!’ Murray in jovial form in front of Federer at Wimbledon

Andy Murray won against wildcard Ryan Peniston 6-3, 6-0, 6-1 to move into the second round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Tuesday afternoon.

And as Roger Federer laughed from his prime position in the Royal Box, Murray recalled: “Last time I was on this court and he was watching was during the Olympics [in 2012] and he sat in Stan Wawrinka’s box, he was supporting against me! Nice to see a couple of claps today after some good shots.”

It was a good afternoon for Murray on his return to Centre Court, which he described as “amazing”.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve felt physically this good coming into Wimbledon,” he added. “The last few years have been very challenging. Hoping I’m fit and ready for a good run.”

Murray, ranked No 40, will play the winner of the match between Austrian Dominic Thiem and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 5 seed, next.
