Wimbledon: Maria makes third round, beats Cirstea

German Tatjana Maria moved into the third round of Wimbledon by edging out Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the No 26 seed, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Wednesday.

Maria, ranked No 103, will play the winner of the match between Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 5 seed, and Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova next.

Ahead of her victory, the 34-year-old German edged out Australian qualifier Astra Sharma (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).

Cirstea, ranked No 32, won against Serb Aleksandra Krunic (7-6 (5), 7-6 (1)) in the previous round.
