“I felt the electricity”: Kasatkina through to third round after beating Brit Burrage on Centre Court
Daria Kasatkina won against Jodie Burrage 6-0, 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon and will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Nadia Podoroska and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 19 seed, in the next round
Daria Kasatkina, the No 11 seed, reached the third round of Wimbledon by defeating wildcard Jodie Burrage 6-0, 6-2 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Wednesday afternoon.
And after a year’s absence due to Wimbledon’s ban on Russians and Belarusians, Kasatkina said afterwards that playing on Centre Court was very special for her – if a little nerve-wracking.
“It was more difficult because I’m playing against a girl from here, everybody is supporting her and I’m nervous to play on the best court in the world!” she said with a smile.
“It’s a special moment. I felt it inside, I felt the electricity, it was difficult to handle it.”
Kasatkina, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Nadia Podoroska and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 19 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Russian won against American Caroline Dolehide (6-1, 6-4).
Burrage, ranked No 108, won against American Catherine McNally (6-1, 6-3) in the previous round of The Championships – her first-ever win at Wimbledon.
