Wimbledon: Jabeur goes the distance against Andreescu to reach last 16

Ons Jabeur edged out Bianca Andreescu 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday evening and will play No 9 seed Petra Kvitova in the next round

Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 6 seed, advanced to the last 16 of Wimbledon by edging out Canadian Bianca Andreescu 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Saturday evening.

“Yeah, very tough match. I’m glad I got the win. Just hoping to acknowledge more the mistakes I did today to be able to play better for the next match,” Jabeur said after the match in which she struck 26 unforced errors and only made 51% of her first serves.

Jabeur, ranked No 6, will play No 9 seed Petra Kvitova next.

Earlier in the tournament, the Tunisian defeated Pole Magdalena Frech (6-3, 6-3) and Chinese qualifier Zhuoxuan Bai (6-1, 6-1).

Andreescu, ranked No 50, won against Hungarian Anna Bondar (6-3, 3-6, 6-2) and edged out Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the No 26 seed (6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7)) in the previous rounds of The Championships.
