Gasquet reaches third round of a Slam for the first time since 2018

French veteran Richard Gasquet reached the third round of Wimbledon by defeating American Mackenzie McDonald in four sets at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Thursday.

The 36-year-old Gasquet won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 31 minutes to reach the round of 32 at a Major for the first time since the US Open in 2018.

It also marked the first time since 2016 that Gasquet is through to the third round at Wimbledon, where he has been a semi-finalist twice and reached the second week seven times in his career.

Ranked No 69 in the world, Gasquet will next meet Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the No 21 seed, for a place in the fourth round.
