Wimbledon: Djokovic books spot in last four after De Minaur withdrawal
Novak Djokovic benefited from the forfeit of Alex De Minaur on Wednesday and will face the winner of the match between Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 25 seed, and American Taylor Fritz, the No 13 seed, in the next round
Serb Novak Djokovic, the second seed, reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon after Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 9 seed, withdrew before the match on Wednesday at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London.
Djokovic, ranked No 2, will face the winner of the match between Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 25 seed, and American Taylor Fritz, the No 13 seed, next.
The 37-year-old Serb beat qualifier Vit Kopriva (6-1, 6-2, 6-2), wildcard Jacob Fearnley (6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5), Australian Alexei Popyrin (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (3)) and Dane Holger Rune, the No 15 seed (6-3, 6-4, 6-2) ahead of his victory.
In the previous rounds of The Championships, De Minaur, ranked No 9, won against lucky loser James Duckworth (7-6 (1), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4)), Spaniard Jaume Munar (6-2, 6-2, 7-5), French qualifier Lucas Pouille (W/O) and Frenchman Arthur Fils (6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3).
