Wimbledon: Dimitrov rallies from two sets down vs Shang, makes third round

Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 10 seed, advanced to the third round of Wimbledon by producing a stunning comeback to beat Chinese Juncheng Shang 5-7, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Thursday afternoon.

Dimitrov, in the midst of a resurgent 2024 season, improves to 31-10 on the year. The world No 10 will face Frenchman Gael Monfils next.

He improves to 12-9 lifetime in five-setters and completes his second career comeback from two sets to love down. Dimitrov defeated Alex Molcan from two sets down at last year’s US Open.

Ahead of his victory, the 33-year-old Bulgarian defeated Serb Dusan Lajovic (6-3, 6-4, 7-5).

Shang, ranked No 91, won against Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin (7-5, 6-4, 6-4) in the previous round of The Championships.
